Our missions to make a difference.

  • In Mauritius

The main mission of the Indie's World association is the complete care of stray dogs suffering on the island. These polytraumatized dogs are suffering from illnesses, often multiple, injured or have suffered abuse.

The purpose of the shelter is:

    To welcome dogs in distress

    Care (food and veterinary care)

Socializing (re-education to live in community)

Adoption (inform of the responsibility to welcome a dog and procedure)

    The objective:

    Create mutual trust

Our actions for adoption.

  • Welcome.

The shelter is a different environment from what dogs know. A human being takes care of them and shows them affection. A first link is established but remains fragile, it is a question of a period of adaptation and observation. Depending on their state of health, they can be included directly in the pack, but sometimes they are too frightened and sick, so they are placed in a specific place to gradually accustom them to community life and/or provide them with care. Their arrival at the shelter is the starting point of a new life and requires special attention.

    The goal :

    Create mutual trust

  • Care and treat.

After a period of observation and clinical evaluation, sick or injured dogs are directly taken care of in collaboration with one of our partner veterinarians. The team must then, provide various care such as: wound care, administration of antibiotics or other medications, refeeding and rehydration, change of bandage etc... It is sometimes a real fight to save their life because the animals cannot be hospitalized for lack of structure. Yet the necessary care must be provided night and day.

It takes a considerable amount of time, between journeys, care and funding. But for the team, the number one rule is to save lives!

    The goal :

    Impeccable health

  • Socialize.

When dogs are cared for and regain strength and confidence, they join the pack whenever possible. One thing is certain, it is not easy, dogs must tame each other and learn to live together, the different characters are then highlighted. The team must assess the risks and act accordingly while maintaining calm and discipline. This is when education and socialization begin. The dogs are accompanied by the “Dog training & rehabilitation Unit” team with whom we collaborate in order to develop basic learning, promote socialization and thus improve their education. We make every effort to prepare our dogs to be welcomed into their future families.

    The goal :

A dog well in his paws
